Senior Dogs
Last modified: March 25, 2011Some points that we have to look at now that our dogs are becoming seniors. Everything from nutrition to grooming is changing with our dogs now. Activity is a big factor in longevity with our dogs. Having a steady routine that say every day at a particular time they go for a walk. Keep that up, it not only keeps them active but also gives them something to look forward too.
This cannot stressed this enough, dogs do have a routine that they follow, and as they get older you want to keep that routine constant. Depression is a very serious issue for older dogs and can come on very easily. It can lead up to everything from being lazy or listless which is what you do not want. Keeping your dog active both psychically and mentally will help in the long run!
Even a particular night they are to get something special on their dinner gives your dog something to look forward to. This does not involve any extra effort on our part other than just including their favorite addition to their meal. Of course you don’t want to give them a over amount. With my dog it is salmon, but I give her only a small portion and for her to get the Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids and fish oil to keep her skin/fur soft and supple. But if your dog is anything like mine she can get a upset stomach very easily.
Which brings us to our next problem….
