Dog separation anxiety is a common problem with most dogs. They are extremely affectionate animals and often become attached with their owners. This causes them to suffer from depression in the absence of their master. However, most owners do not realize whether their dogs need help. It is extremely important to understand that whether your dog is suffering from depression from being left alone or he simply isn’t trained to stay calm at home.

At first examine the behavior of your pet. If your dog appears to chew or bark when at home normally, then it may be a part of his nature. When living with the members at home even if the dog behaves abnormally then also it might simply require to get trained. If he happens to behave unusually when alone at home then possibly your dog is suffering from depression due to anxiety.

If your dog is exposed to accidents when performing training activities in your absence then those are not related to anxiety issues. Your pet may bark when bored or when he does not receive enough attention. In fact, severe cases of depression due to separation are extremely rare in dogs.

Dog separation anxiety is actually more than a behavioral issue. If your dog is emotionally down trodden, then he might behave just like how humans do when left alone. However, some of the most applicable issues with anxiety is excitement or nervousness when you are about to leave. In fact, a dog stricken with such conditions might become unruly and wild and may even start to destroy things inside the house. Certain dogs may just whine or bark for about ten or fifteen minutes after you’re gone while symptoms of dog depression anxiety may go on for hours.

Several factors can contribute to the emergence of separation anxiety problems. It might occur for varying degrees of intensity which entirely depends on the reason and also the nature of your dog. Certain common causes are as enlisted:

Moving out of the house for a long time.
Leaving your dog alone frequently when he was younger.
Your dog does not go out or socialize.
The dog is ill or is weak.
Your pet undergoes a traumatic situation.
The dog is extremely nervous by nature and requires being accompanied at all times.

The master is who takes care of the health of the dog and it’s a hard task to take, but that’s the responsibility of owning a dog. Watching out for health problems in your dog is a must in order to obtain a good healthy pet. If you do not pay close attention to the health of your friendly pet, it could have you paying lots of money and this is another reason why it’s important to remember the responsibilities of taking care of a dog. When you find that your pet has a health problem, you will need to take them to the vet. Dog health problems can vary between bodily problems and skin problems. Within this article, I am going to discuss how to avoid certain dog health problems.

You will find dogs to have certain health conditions depending on their breed. Two good examples of this are a boxer and pit bull. A boxer is more likely to get vision problems and a pit bull is more likely to get hip dyspepsia. This article will give you valuable information that can be applied to all dog breeds. This includes pit bulls, huskies, boxers, and rottweilers.

Making sure that your dog is well trained will keep him happy and healthy. By properly training your canine, you will make him smart and smart dogs have a habit of staying healthy. If you care about your dog’s well-being, you will begin his training as soon as possible. You should begin by leash training him and teaching him his name. By doing this, you will have more control of him which will allow you to keep your canine out of trouble. Teaching your canine that the road is a dangerous place would also be adviseable because many innocent dogs have died on the road.

If your canine has a health issue, you need to look for a vet that can resolve any problems your dog may have. Your dog can have many health problems and one of the major ones is heart worms. Heart worms can have your canine going through a difficult time as they get older and more than likely not make it through. So, if your beloved canine is coughing, this could be a sign of heart worms and needs to be looked at by a vet. Fortunately, there are various ways to prevent heart worms that will allow your dog to live a long and healthy life. If the heart worms are detected too late (heart worms have spread throughout the body and grew all over the heart), then your four-legged friend may lose his life.

You should keep an eye out for health problems that are the most common. These problems can involve fleas and ticks. To prevent ticks and fleas from infesting your dog, you should look into purchasing one of the many popular flea and tick prevention products. There might also be parasites and bugs which can also have a detrimental effect to your canine. Parasites can feed on your dog and leave it weak. They can also cause heart problems.

If your dog has a skin problem, he can get a condition known as mange. Mange is a common health problem among dogs that live in the outdoors and don’t get washed regulary. Many dog owners find that many health problems occur because of neglect or because they did not take their dog to the vet enough.

Bone problems are health problems that are difficult to avoid. Dogs that have hip problems and other bone problems will have a hard time with their mobility when they get older. Moving around will be difficult and painful. Your vet might be able to give your dog pain medication and/or joint supplements that can alleviate some of the pain.

The health of your dog all depends on you and you should know that one by now. Did you know that there are certain vitamins and supplements that you will be able to give your four legged friend? That’s right, those vitamins and supplements will help your pet stay healthy. However, there are also some vitamins and supplements out there that are not good for your pet. No matter how good a supplement or vitamin claims to be, you should first make sure and double check with the veterinarian. You wouldn’t go and put medication into your body before you checked with your doctor, now would you? Many of us wouldn’t.

You should also take note that exercising your dog is extremely important. In order to find the right exercise for the breed of dog you have, you will need to ask your veterinarian. Some of the exercises could be something as little as playing fetch, while certain dogs, such as pit bulls, enjoy a game of good old ‘tug-of-war’ or Frisbee.

Just as human beings need to get vaccinated, so does your dog. This is why you should pay attention to his vaccination schedule. There are vaccinations that can prevent infections and viruses from destroying your canine’s health. Some of these vaccinations may require a follow up either a couple of months or a couple of years later as your canine grows up.

As you are growing up with your canine, you should always make sure that dog health problems are your first concern. If you notice any abnormal signs in your dog, then take him to your veterinarian immediately. In fact, you should get your dog checked by a vet annually in order to make sure that he is in the best possible health.

Are you worried about dog incontinence in your aging dog? Incontinence in dogs often becomes a problem as our canine friends age. In fact, canine lower urinary tract disease that causes incontinence afflicts about half of all older dogs. Here’s what you need to know about this problem to help your old friend.

Four Reasons For Urinary Incontinence In Dogs

The chances of your canine friend developing one of these problems increase as he gets older. In fact, in pets older than seven, dog incontinence is the most canine common urinary tract disease.

Common reasons for canine incontinence are:

Cystitis in dogs Dog bladder stones Trauma and obstruction Cancer

Cystitis In Dogs

A bacterial infection in your pet’s bladder can cause incontinence in your elderly dog. Frequent urination is often a symptom, and you may notice he’s drinking more water than he normally does. You may also see blood in his urine. This condition is usually diagnosed with a urinalysis, and your vet may also do a urine culture to identify which bacteria are causing it. Canine urinary infections are usually pretty easy to clear up with antibiotics.

Dog Bladder Stones

Canine bladder stones are often seen in aging dogs. If your pet is suffering from recurring bacterial infections, this may be why. The stones often have sharp edges that irritate the bladder walls, leading to a canine urinary tract infection. Bulldogs and dalmations are especially prone to this problem, although they may occur in any breed of dog.

Dog bladder stones don’t always show up on x-rays, so your vet may need to do a contrast study to find them. You may need to feed him a special diet to dissolve them. If that doesn’t work, surgery might be necessary to remove them.

Trauma And Obstruction

Trauma usually isn’t seen in elderly dogs, but it does happen sometimes. Usually trauma will heal on its own, but it’s always a good idea to have your vet check on your old friend to be sure he’s healing properly.

Obstruction of the canine urinary tract can occur from canine bladder stones blocking his urethra, or from a tumor.

Cancer

While lower urinary tract cancer is seen more often in females, males are susceptible to prostrate cancer. Persistent bleeding from the urinary tract should never be ignored. Treatment is more effective when the cancer is caught early.

Can Natural Remedies For Dogs Help Your Aging Pet?

The answer is yes. Herbs and homeopathic remedies have stood the test of time for bladder problems in people, and they’re very effective for preventing and treating dog bladder problems, too. The key is to find remedies especially formulated for use in pets so that your canine friend receives the proper dosage. You’ll also want to deal with a company known for producing only the highest quality natural products for pets.

Don’t wait until incontinence in dogs becomes a problem for your elderly dog. Start your older pet on a natural remedy today to help prevent this problem.

Create your own DIY guide at www.howcast.com or produce your own Howcast spots with the Howcast Filmmakers Program at www.howcast.com If you think your elderly pooch is beyond educating, these tips will show you that any dog at any age can be taught a new trick. To complete this How-To you will need: Dog treats Patience Step 1: Assess physical abilities Assess your dog’s physical abilities. Don’t expect an older dog to jump, leap, and run like a puppy. Step 2: Choose a clear goal Choose a clear goal such as teaching your dog to sit, speak, heel, or lay down on command. Tip: Older dogs are calmer and more receptive to commands, since both owner and pet have a trusting relationship. Step 3: Reward good behavior Focus on rewarding your dog with a treat or toy for good behavior. Don’t reward bad behavior, but don’t punish them, either. Step 4: Work in small steps Work in small steps and keep training sessions short. This is especially important for older dogs that may tire quickly. Step 5: Give commands consistently Give your dog commands consistently, and give the reward immediately after they do something good. Step 6: Remain patient Remain patient and don’t expect miracles with your older pet. But if you’re consistent, you should notice a difference …

Senior dog grooming essentials

As well as giving your dog good nutrition for his or her insides you really need to help with the outside as well. Not just about having your dog looking good but also getting rid of all that lifeless undercoat, this really inhibits the ability for your dog to get his or her skin breathing. After all your dogs skin is the largest organ, much like your own!

This is for those DYI Pet Groomers who want to spend time with their dog and also save money! These dog grooming supplies will help you save time too, the routine of getting your dog into your vehicle to go down to the groomers on time..etc (you know what I’m talking about..)

So what you really need to do is to look at something that is evasively easy to control that undercoat. Something that will not harm your dog and be quick about it. Because if your dog is anything like mine… you really need to be quick!
A funny name but does a great job!

2. The Andis dog grooming kit, For getting rid of excess hair especially in the summer months I use this kit to keep her hair light and the grooming costs down!
3.I use the Safari Mat Splitter to keep her matted hair from getting too out of control.

Dogs depression is best dealt with by treating the cause. How do you know what that is? Here are some pointers, but you will also need to do the homework of working out what is relevant for your dog.

Depression most commonly occurs from unresolved emotions. Dogs can be as much affected by this as we are. Examples include shock, fright and grief.

It’s worth remembering that dogs have a weakness in their hearts. So any stress that affects their heart is likely to cause deep problems. A healthy heart can mean an open and loving dog. An unhealthy heart can mean an closed, introverted, depressed dog.

Pets also have a habit of taking on our unresolved emotional burdens..This means that the best we can do for out pets is to keep on top of our own problems.

Let’s look at grief. The loss of a much loved companion or human may take time to work through. Or they may not be able to.

Unresolved emotions create physical health problems.

By treating your dogs depression, and other health issues, with homeopathic medicines, you will be treating the cause. This is how homeopathy works. The unresolved emotion creates a blockage in the immune system. Clear that, and the good health returns with the return of the healthy immune system.

But to use homeopathic medicines effectively, you need to be able to match your dog’s symptoms with those of the curative medicine.

The homeopathic medicine Natrum muriaticum, or Nat mur, is a common medicine which can resolve emotional blockages such as grief. Apart from the grief and the closed heart, you will need some physical symptoms on which to base the choice of Nat mur. Some of its strong physical keynote symptoms are:

oedemas, dropsy or ascites anaemia nephritis or inflammation of the kidneys, with difficulties passing urine – it comes slowly and/or there is incontinence dislike of warmth, especially that of the sun past history of herpes infections (mouth, genitals), so possibly many antibiotics weariness, weakness sore back

With the resolution of the grief, will come the disappearance of the physical health problems.

Lіke humans, dogs can suffer from the paіns of arthritis . Іf you’re a dog owner reluctant to put your loved companіon through a Dog arthritis treatment, we totally understand your concerns. Many dogs don’t respond posіtіvely to medіcatіons and end up feelіng worse. To solve your dog’s problem, you mіght resort to natural methods of treatment. Let us begіn by defіnіng arthritis and іts causes іn the canіne world.

Arthritis іs the іnflammatіon of joіnts and muscles usually affectіng older, іnactіve, or overweіght dogs. Unlіke humans, your dog cannot defіne hіs paіn but you can tell іf your dog has arthritis by hіs level of actіvіty and responsіveness when you call hіs/her name. The most common type of arthritis affectіng dogs іs osteoarthritis assocіated wіth overuse of cartіlages. You can help your dog battle arthritis naturally usіng the followіng herbs and supplements…

Vіtamіn C іs one of the best supplements to protect agaіnst joіnt deterіoratіon. Dependіng on your dog’s sіze, you can add up to 4,000 mg of powdered Vіtamіn C to theіr meals to allevіate arthritis symptoms. You must avoіd powdered Vіtamіn C that’s hіghly acіdіc, іnstead use a less acіdіc form — Ask your pharmacіst for more detaіls.

Mussels are essentіal to repaіrіng damaged tіssues. Greenlіp mussels and Perna mussels are most effectіve іn dog arthritis treatment. Іf you can’t fіnd fresh mussels, you can easіly fіnd a suіtable shellfіsh extract at your local pet store.

Vegetables are one of the top dog arthritis fіghters. Your dog may not lіke eatіng vegetables, but try to mіx them wіth hіs/her food for best results. Vegetables are rіch іn mіnerals and vіtamіns that help allevіate arthritis aches.

Alfalfa and Yucca are great іn reducіng arthritis paіns for dogs. These herbs can be easіly brewed іnto a tea that your dog drіnks on a daіly basіs. The dosage depends on your dog’s sіze and age. For best results, try to brew the tea early mornіng as your dog’s joіnts are the stіffest then.

Stіngіng nettles are yet another herb that can lower your dog’s arthrіtіc paіn.You can easіly make your dog a stіngіng nettles tea usіng the powdered extract. For best results, add the stіngіng nettles to the Alfalfa and Yucca herbal tea.

A mіx of comfrey leaves, chopped rosemary, and parsley lubrіcate your pet’s joіnts. Whіle many dogs won’t lіke the mіx, they stіll love eatіng comfrey leaves.

Usіng these natural methods, you can reduce the symptoms of dog arthritis. One obstacle іs that dogs can be fіckle wіth theіr eatіng patterns. Another obstacle іs the cost and avaіlabіlіty of these natural herbs. As a solutіon, you can use natural arthritis relіef oral drops. Such homeopathіc remedіes are easy to admіnіster and have no negatіve sіde effects on your dog’s health.

All pets suffer from the pain and swelling of arthritis just like we do - but you can help them with homeopathic ingredients which have historically been used to help treat the symptoms of joint pain – - Pet Bounce™ Homeopathic Oral Drops for Arthritis and Joint Pain Relief.

I was reminded yesterday about reading an article some years ago about Dog Intelligence, that my dog’s breed (a Border Collie) at age 2 has the equivalent of around a 13-14 year old teen and depending on how much you work with your dog that also is a factor. I work with my dog every day, for the past 14 years I just don’t throw the ball for her to retrieve, but I hide the ball so she has to sniff around for it. I toss her the ball so she catches it to help maintain her eye/mouth coordination (just like our hand/eye coordination in humans).

I was reminded about this article because of a impatient person who was walking their dog and was pulling and almost strangling this poor dog with the leash. The person muttered “Stupid dog!” as I walked by, I said “The dog’s not stupid, just the lack of training.. meaning the owner is stupid!” yes that was rude of me but I do not condone pulling or yanking on leashes just because people are impatient. I think that there are much better ways to train your dog. Like the authoritative BAH! noise to shock your dog out of its current thought process. Then when your dog is focused on you then reward your dog with lots of praise and maybe even a treat.

I would think that is a much better way of training or even correcting bad habits rather than using a shock collar. Or even tugging on the leash to possibly give your dog neck problems. I would suggest people who have puppies do research on line or talk to a dog trainer for advice.

My dog impresses me every day, she can learn new tricks but I would just rather her be herself. We do what she likes to do and I won’t dress her up for Halloween or whatever because dogs also have dignity. So treat your dog like a dog, work with them all they want to do is please you. They’re not just a pet or a commodity, they’re your friend. Remember that.

While professional veterinarians are the people who we rely upon in order to treat and diagnose what are dogs may or may not be suffering from, in reality, it is quite possible for the typical dog owner who has a little common sense and knowledge to do the same. While this is definitely not true for all health conditions or problems, it is true when it comes to arthritis in dogs as well as another common issue called hip dysplasia.

A few of the most typical indications that your dog might be suffering from one of these health problems are as follows: (1) Your dog has an awkward gait (walking pattern) or limps. (2) It is a struggle to rise after lying down or it is a struggle to sit after it has been standing up. (3) Aversion to going out, and reduced enthusiasm when outside. (4) Constantly behind you whenever you go for a walk. (5) Whimpering or shying away when someone approaches or tries to pet them.

Glucosamine for dogs is one of the most effective methods of both preventing and dealing with the osteoarthritis from which a dog may suffer. Therefore, it needs to be a high priority on the list of things for your dog for any dog owner who truly cares for their pet.

A few people have had concerns about the usefulness and validity of glucosamine for dogs, stating that it might be nothing more than a placebo and therefore not a good thing to buy. The whole premise of a placebo is that the subject does not know that they are receiving a placebo, and instead thinks they are receiving cutting edge medication to reduce their pain.

Due to this, a placebo requires a lot of psychological thought and willpower in order for the person to think that it is helping their body. Without trying to do a disservice to dogs in general, they simply are not intelligent enough to know what a placebo is. Therefore, when the dog shows improvement after taking the glucosamine for dogs, it is a direct result of the supplement helping them and not a placebo effect. In short, if you provide glucosamine for dogs to ones with arthritis, and they seem generally happier as well as more active, then this is a direct consequence of the glucosamine for dogs supplement.

A fundamental component to all bones, and more specifically the synovial fluid and cartilage of the joint, is glucosamine. Cartilage is the shock absorber of the joint which cushions neighboring joints and prevents them from rubbing against each other like sticks. Arthritis is caused when cartilage wears away and the bones then press upon one another. Glucosamine for dogs will ease the pain of your dog as it will help to increase the deficit of chemicals that your pet has endured. You may find that glucosamine in liquid form is better for your pet, as they may have an aversion to swallowing pills. A liquid can also be easily put in dog treats or other foods like braided bully sticks or peanut butter.

Diagnosis

The first thing that a vet will do when he thinks that a dog might have hip dysplasia is reading the medical history of the dog, after which he will examine the dog in detail. After the physical examination, the veterinarian will look at the joints of the dog to see if there are any signs that their motion is limited or reduced, if the joints are lax or if they creak, or if the muscles of the thighs are atrophied. The results, together with the symptoms that were mentioned above will tell the doctor if the dog suffers from hip dysplasia. You need to mention those symptoms that you observed when the doctor asks you about them, so he can form a full image of the dog’s condition. He will watch the dog as he moves or walks around, and check if he can lie down or sit properly. Sometime, he will be able to diagnose the dog as having hip dysplasia just by doing.

Diagnosing hip dysplasia requires taking x-rays in most cases, and they’re a tool that is very important to the diagnosis. Using them allows the doctor to find the disease both in cases when symptoms are present and when they are not (sometimes it happens). Taking an x-ray needs the dog to keep still, without moving, which means that the vet will probably need to give him some anesthetic. After this is done, he will be able to use the x-rays results to find out if the dog has hip dysplasia. The doctor can also use the x-rays to find out how much of a problem the hip dysplasia is and at what stage it is. This will determine what course of treatment the dog needs to take, and how it should be implemented. The treatment will improve the dog’s quality of life and take away some of the pain.

Causes

Hip dysplasia in dogs is usually caused by his genetic heritage. Studies have revealed that genetics play a great part in the appearance of hip dysplasia. What that means is that the medical history of the parents plays an important part in determining if hip dysplasia will show up or not. That’s why there are breeds that have an increased chance of getting hip dysplasia. In most cases, the breeds with a big chance of getting hip dysplasia are the big ones, like German Shepherds, St. Bernards, Labrador Retrievers, Rottweilers, Golden Retrievers and Neapolitan Mastiffs.

However, genetics isn’t the only reason why dogs can develop hip dysplasia. Other reasons why hip dysplasia shows up include environmental factors. These can influence the appearance of the disease. One factor that can influence hip dysplasia is the nutrition of the dog. What I mean by nutrition is the fact that dogs that become overweight are more likely to get this disease, since the added weight makes the joints more stressed. The second factor can be the type of physical activity, as jumping and climbing stairs can also add extra stress on the joints of the dog, when done too much. If the dog does this type of physical activity on a regular basis, it can add to the chance of developing arthritis.

The third factor that can contribute to hip dysplasia is a slippery bedding or flooring. If they puppy stays on wood or newspaper floors, they have an increased chance of getting hip dysplasia. A surface that is slippery will not make the dog get hip dysplasia, but it can worsen the situation. Even though hip dysplasia is caused by genetics, other factors can influence how the disease is expressed or how it develops.
